A BRIDGE TO FAR

On the 17 of September 1944, Operation Market Garden started with the hope to make the war end early. the british Paratroopers (Parachute Soldiers), landed 8 miles away from the place they needed to capture, which was the Arnhem bridge. Their mission was to hold the bridge for two days, so the allied tanks could get across the bridge unfortunately the allies didn’t turn up in time. After nine days of fighting, the british retreated 1200 died and 2000 escaped 6800 got captured, the retreat operation was called berlin. Watching the documentary about a bridge too far made me feel sad because of all of that fighting and killing. Did you know that arnhem is my middle name which is also a battle honour of the british parachute regiment.

  1. Hi Cory
I really enjoyed reading your writing that was a very interesting read. It cant of been very nice to be expecting allies to turn up and they never came. Do you enjoy reading about history?
